1930s Celtic-inspired sterling silver brooch or kilt pin in a classic buckler shape
A 1930s Celtic-inspired sterling silver brooch or kilt pin in a classic buckler shape by England’s Shipton & Company silversmiths. The pin has a nice heft for its size and silver form. Measures approximately 1.5 inches across.
A buckler is a small shield, typically up to 18 inches across. A handle in the center of the back made the buckle easy to maneuver while holding a weapon in the other hand. Even though it provided very little protection against arrows and other missiles, the buckler was perfect for hand to hand combat, helping the user deflect an opponent’s blows or hinder the opponent’s movements.
