The intricate Celtic knot (snaidhm Ceilteach in Scottish Gaelic) is a staple of Gaelic and Caledonian art for the past several millennia. A variety of endless or basket knot design, the Celtic knot can be found throughout ancient and modern Celtic artwork. While these delicate spirals and step patterns were common in Celtic art before Christian influences in the area, the designs soon found their way into early Christian artwork by the mid 400s AD.
