Originally designed by the incomparable Georg Jensen in the earliest years of the twentieth century, this sterling silver swan pin is by one of the masters of pre-modernist sterling silver. Fully hallmarked Sterling, Denmark with Jensen’s mark from 1904-1908. The pin is in pristine condition and measures 1 inch across. A rare Scandinavian treasure.
Master silversmith Georg Arthur Jensen was born in Rådvad in 1866. In his teens he apprenticed in goldsmithing before moving to an early career in ceramics. He transitioned to silver at the turn of the century, and in 1904 he opened his own smithy (Georg Jensen A/S, also known as Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie) in Copenhagen.
Known for his exquisite silverware and art nouveau stylings, Jensen remains one of the preeminent artist craftsmen of the twentieth century. Examples of his work are highly sought after by collectors in multiple media.
