Larimar & Sterling Talon Necklace

Mid-Century talon necklace in sterling silver and unpolished larimar

Out of stock

A stunning talon-inspired necklace in sterling silver and rare, unpolished Caribbean larimar. Fully hallmarked as sterling from Taxco, Mexico, the necklace measures 20 inches long. One of the boldest, most elegant Mexican sterling pieces we’ve ever collected. Dated from the mid-twentieth century, at least two decades before formal larimar mining began in the Dominican Republic. A rare treasure.

Larimar is a very rare variety of pectolite, one found only in the Dominican Republic. Unlike typical pectolite, which colors from white to grey-green, larimar has a unique volcanic blue coloration, which is the result of copper substitution for calcium. Originally discovered in 1916, it wasn’t formally mined until the 1970s. Rare examples like this one are from stones harvested in the mid-twentieth century. Given it is only found in one location on Earth, the supply of quality larimar has already begun to taper off, and prices are reaching new highs.
