The Oval Agate Kilt Pin is a classic Late-Victorian era Scottish blue banded agate, citrine and sterling silver kilt pin in a tiered oval. The Madeira citrine has an excellent deep amber color. Measures approximately 1.75 inches across.
One of the most prized stones in antique Scottish jewelry making, banded agate is a beautiful semi-precious gem with distinct layers of colors and designs. Hues can range from browns and golds to reds, whites and even blues. Many classic Scottish kilt pins and women’s accessories will feature multiple colors of agate set in complementary patterns. In ancient times, early Caledonians collected the stones and used them for luck and protection. Many of the best specimens originate from the fields and beaches of Scotland’s eastern coast — areas Angus, Fife, Ayr and Burn-Anne.
