Mid-twentieth century sterling silver buckle cuff in a late Victorian style
A beautiful and detailed, mid-twentieth century sterling silver buckle cuff in a late Victorian style. Features a unique hidden clasp under the faux buckle. Fully hallmarked by Bisthons Ltd. of Birmingham. The interior measures 6.75 inches around when closed.
While often referred to by the more modern term of hinged bangle, the Victorian cuff was a staple of finer women’s jewelry for more than 50 years. Typically hollow formed in either sterling silver or rolled gold, the cuff would be ornamented with hand struck designs and finished with a hidden clasp, faux buckle, key lock and/or safety chain. Cuffs are an excellent place for the new aficionado of Victoriana to launch their collection.
