A County Argyle original, our first holiday card features a wintery forest of trees, each in a different, authentic Scottish tartan. Each card measures 7 x 5 inches folded and is printed in full color on high quality stock. The inside offers a classic Scottish Gaelic holiday greeting:
Nollaig Chridheil agus Bliadhna Mhath Ùr
which translates in English to Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The cards come ten to a pack with matching white envelopes.
For several centuries, Christmas in Scotland had been a religious feasting day. Following the Reformation, however, all things related to the Roman Catholic Church were frowned upon. In fact, in 1640 the Scottish Parliament passed a law that made celebrating Yule vacations illegal. It was more than 300 years later, in 1958, when December 25 was named a Scottish public holiday.
