Our Celtic Ring Knot Pendant features a flat torus of intricate Celtic knots, hand-cast in sterling silver. The necklace pendant measures 1.5 inches across and comes with a sterling silver chain in 18, 20, 22 or 24 inches.
In Celtic myth and folklore, the simple circle represents the cyclical nature of life and death. Unbroken, the ring continues throughout eternity and provides protection for the wearer and their family.
The best known of such rings is Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. According to an early tale, the Devil purchased the stones from a woman in Ireland and carried them on his back to Salisbury. He arranged them in a ring and called out “No-one will ever find out how these stones came here!” A passing friar replied, “That’s what you think!” Upset his trick had been discovered, the Devil threw one of the stones at the friar, striking him on the heel as it landed.
This 16-foot tall Heel Stone (or the Friar’s Stone) lies outside the stone circle. On the Summer Solstice, looking from the ring through the northeast entrance, one would see the Sun rise over the Heel Stone.
