The Finnish Sterling Shield Pin is a classic, mid-20th century brooch of mold-pressed sterling silver. While not as well known as their Norwegian and Danish colleagues, Finish silversmiths created some of the most modernist sterling silver jewelry of the era. The piece is hallmarked Finland and 925 with the anvil maker’s mark of Elis Kauppi of Kupittaan Kulta. The pin measures just over 1.5 inches across. A truly unique treasure and an excellent example of Scandinavian design.
Founded just after World War II by silversmith Elis Kauppi, the studio Kupittaan Kulta focused on classic Mid-Century Modern designs in sterling and gold . Kauppi’s jewelry often incorporated beautiful semi-precious stones like amethyst, chrysoprase, and carnelian. His pieces reflected a clear MCM aesthetic by combining abstract lines, geometric shapes, and figurative animals.
