Floral Sterling Penannular

This beautiful Floral Sterling Penannular is a one-of-a-kind sterling silver clasp pin featuring a delicate flowered design over a classic Celtic form. The piece bears no hallmarks but tests 925 silver, likely from the late Victorian era. The pin measures approximately 2 inches across. At some point the pin was repaired on the reverse, but it doesn’t impact the look or function of the 150-year-old piece. A truly unique treasure and an excellent example of Celtic design.

Popular from the British Isles in the 8th and 9th centuries (though debuting several hundred years prior), the penannular serves as a practical yet beautiful means of clasping a cloak or wrap. This unisex design features a broken ring and a free moving pin designed to pierce and hold loosely woven fabrics.
