The Norwegian Black Enamel Leaf Pin is a beautiful, early 20th century brooch of black enamel over gilded sterling silver. The Norwegian and Danish modern silversmiths of the early 1900s created some of the most prized sterling silver jewelry of the era. Collectors seek them out for the colors and patterns created by the different enamels and modernist settings. The piece is hallmarked Norway and Sterling Silver with the maker’s mark of Einar Modahl of Oslo. The pin measures 1.75 inches across. A truly unique treasure and an excellent example of Scandinavian design.

Einar Modahl of Oslo

One of the masters of early Mid-Century Modern design, silversmith Einar Modahl combined sterling with colored enamel to create timeless pieces that are still prized by collectors today. Modahl opened his enamelware workshop in Oslo in 1920. Seventeen years later, he entered into a partnership with fellow artist Otto Frisch, and the resulting company continued under Modahl’s name for several decades. After Modahl died in 1951, Frisch led the foundry until his death in 1970. The company closed the following decade.
