Our vintage Bagpiper Pewter Pin makes the perfect gift for the piper in your life. Hand cast in Inverness in 1998 by a traditional pewtersmith, the piper is part of a large collection of original vintage pins we were lucky enough to secure. Now 25 years old, this fantastic piece has exceptional detail due to the level of craftsmanship used. We have a very limited number of the pins, and once they sell out, they are gone forever. The pin measures 1.3 inches tall and comes with a metal pinback for secure display. A County Argyle exclusive!

The Scottish Bagpiper

An instrument as Scottish as kilts, whisky, haggis and Loch Ness, the bagpipes likely originated in other parts of the world. One origin suggests that a sculpture of bagpipes are found on a Hittite slab in Anatolia, dated back to the 10th century BC. In the British Isles, Geoffrey Chaucer mentions the pipes in his seminal work, The Canterbury Tales (c1380 AD):

A baggepype wel coude he blowe and sowne, /And ther-with-al he broghte us out of towne.

Scottish bagpipes first appear in histories of the Highlands during the Battle of Pinkie in 1547. The author notes that pipes replaced trumpets on the battlefield.
