Our vintage Pewter Sheaf Toss Pin makes the perfect gift for the Scottish athlete in your life. Hand cast in Inverness in 1998 by a traditional pewtersmith, the figure is part of a large collection of original vintage pins we were lucky enough to secure. Now 25 years old, this fantastic piece has exceptional detail due to the level of craftsmanship used. We have a very limited number of the pins, and once they sell out, they are gone forever. The pin measures 1.75 inches tall and comes with a metal pinback for secure display. A County Argyle exclusive!
A staple of Highland Games around the world, the Sheaf Toss is a Scottish take on an agricultural tradition from around the world. A pitchfork is used to hurl a burlap bag stuffed with straw over a horizontal bar above the competitor’s head Athletes use a pitchfork to hurl a burlap bag stuffed with straw over an overhead cross bar. Competitors have three chances to clear the 16-pound sheaf over the bar. After each round, the bar rises until only one athlete remains. The best athletes can toss the sheaf nearly 40 feet.
