Rose Sterling Penannular

This beautiful Rose Sterling Penannular is a one-of-a-kind sterling silver clasp pin featuring a delicate flower design over a classic Celtic form. The piece bears only a “Silver” hallmark, likely from the late Victorian era. It was clearly made my the same silversmith at the Shield Sterling Penannular. The pin measures Just over 1.5 inches across. A truly unique treasure and an excellent example of Celtic design.

The Penannular

Popular from the British Isles in the 8th and 9th centuries (though debuting several hundred years prior), the penannular serves as a practical yet beautiful means of clasping a cloak or wrap. This unisex design features a broken ring and a free moving pin designed to pierce and hold loosely woven fabrics. Also known as the Celtic Brooch, the penannular can be found in cultures from the early Romans to the Viking invaders.
