Our Viking Triskelion Pendant features a traditional triskelion in a full-relief, wood-carved style, hand-cast in sterling silver. The necklace pendant measures 1 inch across and comes with a sterling silver chain in 18, 20, 22 or 24 inches.
A classic symbol from Celtic art and antiquity, the triskelion (or triple spiral) derives from the Greek word triskeles, meaning “three legs.” In design, the triskelion symbolizes movement and motion. It signifies the energies of progress, growth and action.
The earliest examples of the triskelion appear in the European Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The classic Greeks favored the design and incorporated it into early pottery, then coinage and architecture. The motif spread during the Iron Age as far as Galicia and the British Isles. In Celtic Christianity the symbol soon took on new meanings, as a symbol of either the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) or the three stages of man.
