Our Rampant Lion Enamel Pendant features a stylized Scottish lion in full color enamel. The necklace pendant measures 1 inch across and comes with a stainless steel chain in 18 or 20 inches. A customer favorite!
The Lion Rampant of Scotland (formally known as the Royal Banner of the Royal Arms of Scotland) represented the King or Queen of Scots throughout history and is the personal banner of the monarchs. The earliest recorded use of the Lion as a royal emblem was in 1222 by Alexander II. The King of Scots used the Rampant Lion until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. Today the Rampant Lion can be found across Scotland, typically in red with a red heraldic border and a vivid yellow background.
Although the lion doesn’t appear often in Celtic myths, the large cat paralleled the fierce Celtic warrior. Like a pride of lions, warriors lived and hunted in groups with strong, almost familial bonds. In Irish myth, Lugh (also known as Lug) was a warrior king and a master craftsman. The lion occasionally represented King Lugh in art and literature.
